Most shoppers don’t know this, but there is a science in how stores are usually organized. As shoppers, we don’t really pay attention to where things are, and why things are organized in such a certain manner, but all this organization is the product of years of market research by certified professionals.
For example, it is the main goal of stores to introduce customers to new and upcoming items as these are the items which are full-priced. These items are usually placed at the entrance, and are also displayed prominently on the store window. As such, the front of the store is usually where you can find the trendiest items. Putting these items in front is a very effective way of capturing customers’ attention and luring them towards your main merchandise for that season.
Now, if you are a savvy shopper, you will know a store’s layout by heart so you will know how to strategically shop. If you know where the trendy items are, you must also know where the sale items are. Items on sale are usually placed at the back, which is the last area in the store which customers usually go to. Many customers only look at the merchandise at the front of the store then quickly move on to the next store in the lane. As a result, they miss out on great opportunities as there is almost always some treasure to be found in sale racks.
When you find your way to the back of the store where the sale items are, don’t buy things just because they have been marked down tremendously. Buy items which you will actually wear or use. Don’t buy things which will just end up cluttering your closet and will not be useful for you in any way. Remember, the next time you shop, use up all your energy first and go straight to the sale rack in the back before loitering around the full-priced items. Chances are, you will find a lot of great pieces on sale that you will always think twice before buying full price again. In this kind of economy, it always pays to shop smart.
