Healty Eating on a Dime

Let’s talk turkey: Eating healthy food is so important, especially for girls who want to pamper themselves. Of course, only the best, healthiest food will do. But it’s sometimes difficult on a budget. Fortunately, Philadelphia has some great choices for healthy eating, and The Original Turkey is one of the best the City of Brotherly Love has to offer.

The Original Turkey offers—you guessed it—meals made with hand-carved turkey. You can choose from platters or sandwiches, and if you make good choices, you can be assured that you’re eating a healthy lunch. How’s this for different, tasty, yet easy on the waistline (and wallet)? A Turkey Rueben sandwich is stuffed with layers of sliced turkey, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing on grilled rye bread, served with a side of coleslaw. This dish runs under $8.00. Maybe you’d rather have the Western Quesadilla, a quesadilla with turkey, red and green bell peppers, pepper jack cheese in chipotle sauce. That beauty runs just a little over $8.00. So the restaurant might serve “just turkey,” but it never gets boring with dishes like the Turkey Steak Sandwich (which resembles a Philly Cheesesteak) or a Florentine Griller.

The Original Turkey is located in the Reading Terminal Market, and it’s open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
